CNBLUE February Failure

CNBLUE February Failure

Before I start this, I would like to warn you guys that this article is base on my opinion so I apologize if any of you get offended.

This is not a review but more like critics toward the Can’t Stop album and I guess I am one of the few Boice that oppose this album  from the concept, MV, music in general, and comeback stages. So fellow Boice, read this with your own risk because I already received many angry mentions on twitter because of my disagreement. So yeah, if you are the kind of fans who can’t stand with different idea then I advice you not to read this.

First Impression

cantstop

From the start FNC announced CNBLUE’s new album, I already disagree with the idea, why? Because that means Yonghwa did prepare this album during his MHIYD and Blue Moon Tour and let face it, that Yonghwa is the main person in this album more over right now he also serving as producer as well. I just don not want him to over work himself although he keep saying his work is fun.

My disagreement bit loosens when one night Yonghwa tweeted and saying something about brass music which was increasing my curiosity. Unfortunately, my excitement did not last long because FNC release a selca of the member in MV filming set. I quickly conclude that the album will not meet my expectation and I doubt if I will like the album either. And the more FNC — that continuously — release promotional photos and teasers the more I have no interest with the album.

Honestly I just watched the MV once, and during the time I was just frowning, what with the song and MV? CNBLUE became more and more idol-ish (but for sure I cannot complain, it is Korean after all, what can I expect but as fans I cannot help but disappoint).  And when finally I bought the digital version while I am waiting for my copy arrived, I just glad that I put my expectation on the right place.

One word for this album, I DO NOT LIKE IT (yet I still buy 2 versions of the album).

Why?

cantstop23

First of all, I can find that Can’t Stop music style in many popular band and music now days, nothing special with this album unlike CNBLUE’s previous album because Cant Stop is dominates by commercial music ( ps: I start to listen another Kpop music other than FNC artist to try to understand their style more).

To me CNBLUE has lost their uniqueness, lost their touch in order to give another color in Kpop music. Can’t Stop failed to show their own style and I hate that. The only difference among those Kpop idol is that CNBLUE is playing instruments for real, compose and produce their own songs but those not enough to buy me.

MV

cantstop35

Do not ask me about it because I am highly uninterested, I can bear to listen to the song but not watching the MV.  I read many reviews from fans and medias with mix outcome but I guess I go with those who put the thumbs down.

When the MV was out it was just proven why I do not like the album, to me being mature does not mean you have to wear suit and singing endless love. Mature in music, technique and vision is more important. From here I think they only after cash instead of art. And love is not only love interest between man and woman, there many kind of love in this world yet these days they only care about desire. Where is CNBLUE who likes to sing about their dream, about their daily life, about their interest in chasing the bigger stage? All gone already by the word of “mature”.

Can’t Stop

cantstop4

Speaking about the album I do not understand why they choose Can’t Stop as title track, aside of song title that also album title, I do not think that the song is match enough with the MV concept. For me, if they insist with the concept, why did not the go with Cold Love or Sleepless Night? Both are having melody that suit for the concept. To me Can’t Stop is just plain popular music that you can find everywhere now days that song has no CNBLUE taste at all.

Personally I rooted for Diamond Girl or Like A Child as title track. Only those songs that show it were CNBLUE who compose and sing it. Diamond Girl is just as CNBLUE’s usual music, unique and only them who made it. This song is just different with their previous songs they made without lessen the attractiveness of guitar riff, bold drum beat and fancy bass not to mention the “Brass”, suddenly I wondering Yonghwa’s tweet that night is about this song. Sadly it is not a title track.

Next up is Cold Love, how to say, it is one of CNBLUE’s kinds of medium beat songs, one of the sweet (or sad) slow rock songs, followed closely by Sleepless Night. Another medium low beat songs with interesting guitar solo. Cold Love and Sleepless Night should be Burning Soul favorites songs since here Jonghyun can show off all out of his skill both in singing and guitar. Sleepless Night is bit pop-ish compare to with intense Cold Love rock sound.

The music intensity came into the lowest point for Love Is, another pop ballad and popular and commercial music CNBLUE presented to Boice. Nothing I can say about this song because aside from Yonghwa and Jonghyun harmonic voice, there nothing special about this song.

Last one is Like A Child, another unique song brought up by piano sound, followed by orchestra blended by main instruments, Like A Child bring back CNBLUE’s musical style that seem lost in this album.

Note

I do feel that Minhyuk’s drumming style is very various in this album. He seemed to have more space to explore himself compare with CNBLUE’s previous album.

And of course I do not forget with Jungshin’s fancy bass (this is biased so do not count in).

Comeback

I do feel nothing but proud less, why? Because no “LIVE” and even been cheated by “all live show comeback special”. They did live for TV air, okay, live. But apparently Korean has new meaning of “LIVE” because as long as I know, LIVE means you play there and I watch you at the same time but not with Korean, they have different meaning of that. And if you hope I will appreciate the effort they made for recording — wasting for me — over than 15 hours, nope, do not expect me. Because for me that recording is the most ridiculous thing ever, what did they do wasting so much time just for worth 6 songs and 3 medleys? And the point is; what is called LIVE when they take one song more than once? TV program is full of trick and I never fond of that. For me as cool as their performance on that screen, I am sorry that I am hardly appreciating it.

I am too demanding Boice am I not? LOL

[STARCAST] 2014. Lee Jung Shin’s Dreaming Picture Story

[STARCAST] 2014. Lee Jung Shin’s Dreaming Picture Story

Hello. This is Lee Jung Shin from CNBLUE.
When I was a student, I dreamed of becoming a photographer along with becoming a singer. Since New Year 2014 is here, I am feeling joy as I started taking pictures again as my hobby. I am curious about what kind of dreams and plans everyone has in 2014.

For few years after making a debut as CNBLUE in 2010, I was getting used to getting pictures taken rather than taking pictures, but I suddenly remembered the dream when I was a kid and decided ‘Let’s try taking pictures~’. With curiosity, I read this and that and also searched and I came to remember the time one by one of studying photography by myself and also the good memories of my childhood and I am getting happy.

A month ago in January 2014, I went to North, Central and Latin America with CNBLUE members as part of the world tour. In America, other than the performance schedules, shooting for the album cover to make a comeback in Korea that will be released soon (will be released on 24th, next week!) was also expected to take place throughout the regions of New York so it was a bit tight schedule. It was a tight schedule but I decided to contain in my camera this special travel story.

I diligently carried the camera and took pictures of things I want to take pictures of and had a fun time. I would like to share with everyone what I saw, felt and what I want to talk about. So I have prepared.

On the day of performing in New York, I usually do not go to bed early and do not get up early but maybe because it is due to jet lag, I was able to wake up in the early morning. I took the camera and just walked out the door. On this day, it really snowed a lot but the streets of New York was crowded with lots of people. I got a feeling that everyone was busy living their lives in different ways. There is a person who waits for the traffic light, a person who is looking for some place in a complicated street and there are people who are moving as if they are heading to the place they always go to… I felt that there are really various people.

bunnystarcastbunnystarcast1bunnystarcast2I have caught those very moments in the camera.
To me, the first impression of a city called New York is either cold or not familiar yet… It gave me that kind of feeling.
However, a cold dawn passed and the sun rises and I got more excited as the performance in New York is coming up.

bunnystarcast3I also caught on the camera New York’s Brooklyn Bridge, the place where we shot the album cover of our new album ‘Can’t stop’.
I always carried the camera just in case while taking pictures of the album cover and I am glad I did that since a good picture came out. It was a very freezing weather that is below zero but when I saw Brooklyn Bridge, it was a day after meeting with fans in New York, who greeted us, so I remember at least my mind being very warm.

Fortunately to me, there are always excellent models. I come to think about old times a lot when I take pictures of the members, and it also feels like taking pictures of people is becoming much more fun.

bunnystarcast13bunnystarcast14bunnystarcast4bunnystarcast5After performances in New York and LA, we went to Latin America. Right here is Peru, which we visit for the first time1
Peru feels a lot different from New York.

bunnystarcast6In Peru, the performance hall was outdoors. So there were lots of things to take pictures of. I have taken a picture of Yong Hwa, an excellent model who makes best poses when I am holding the camera. It is a picture that I took at the back of the waiting room after the rehearsal for the performance in Peru is over, and it is always fun taking pictures of the leader of CNBLUE who is also the oldest member. He automatically makes poses and he sometimes takes a picture of me also.

There are so many fans lined up behind Yong Hwa and can everyone see them?
No doubt… This is Yong Hwa, who can easily make poses that can sometimes look awkward.

bunnystarcast7The fact that people from this far away know CNBLUE and passionately supports our concert was rather cool and an honor. I felt that lots of people love CNBLUE while doing the world tour so I was happy and at the same time, the sense of responsibility got bigger.

bunnystarcast15This is guitarist from CNBLUE, Jong Hyun. It is him going around the performance hall before the rehearsal. This person… He is relatively picky when taking pictures. It is hard to find him standing still.. He is a picky model but Jong Hyun, he really is white.. Yes.. He looks like mayonnaise.

bunnystarcast8Next up.
This is Min Hyuk, the drummer from CNBLUE, in the middle of the rehearsal. The truth is, out of all the pictures in my camera, I have least of Min Hyuk… I don’t know the reason why. However, when I looked with the perspective of someone who takes pictures, Min Hyuk was really chic… Why would Min Hyuk through the lens become chic..?

bunnystarcast16bunnystarcast9The last but not least of this world tour, Chile!
The day before the concert, we went to different places for SBS comeback show that will be aired on March 2nd (make it as an excuse). We met a kid in a restaurant. I have taken a picture of a kid, who was really naïve, in the camera. I thought that this kid will match well with the song ‘Children’s Song’, the song that is listed in the album Can’t Stop.

Also, throughout the regions in Chile, we could see either graffiti or fancy decorations easily, and it is said that it also contains the meaning of trying to fight off evil spirits.

bunnystarcast17The weather of Chile back then was Korea’s summer and I had a special feeling as I was able to feel the summer weather in winter. I guess this is the reason for travelling to countries that has warm weather in winter, right?

Just like you see in the picture, everyone has joyful steps~

bunnystarcast10When we were passing by, there happened to be kids under the shade~ We love kids very much, and Yong Hwa is saying hi…

bunnystarcast11We also went to a wine farm for the after-party after the concert is over. Maybe because the entire performance is over, everyone looked really relaxed.bunnystarcast12There is me taking pictures and I see Min Hyuk, who is looking at me(?) from far away~
When I looked at the members through the lens and took the pictures myself, I was able to feel once again that ‘everyone is becoming mature and are really turning into men’. It is 5th year since making the debut as of this year, and I think I will be happy if I can be together with the members for a long time and hold the pictures of them in my camera. There are more pictures but sadly, this is it for now~
There are lots of parts in which I lack but I hope everyone look at it in a positive way. I hope to keep enjoying taking pictures and share it with everyone from now on to the future~

Thank you for watching until the end and please show lots of support toward CNBLUE Can’t Stop that will be released on February 24th.

Thank you.

CNBLUE Oricon Special Interview, “NEVER STOP”

CNBLUE Oricon Special Interview, “NEVER STOP”

CN Blue, Korea’s band who ever trained in Japan, and now hold world tour and also become very famous not only in Japan and Korea but also in Asia. Before their first documentary movie to be launched and draw near their frankness face, 4 members shared their hardships and gushing hotly now.

This is your first documentary movie, do you feel some pressure?

[JH] At the first I felt some pressures. Because this is documentary movie, we thought it’s too fast, isn’t it? We even ever said “it will be better after this”, but because of its title is “NEVER STOP”, we think to make a film of that picture hereafter.

[JS] Recording of this movie has been done for now, but since this is documentary movie; I think it should shows our (almost) real appearance. Such as our situation in the back stage or the discussion after live performance, I think it is our very first time to appear that way to all of our fans. If you watch this movie, you will be able to know us very well.

[MH] In spite of me, at the beginning I felt a little pressure too. But when watching the whole clips, there nothing to be worried about. I think it is a good movie and I could enjoy watching it.

[YH] I thought at the first watching our plain (without make up) appearance, and the truth when we hit each other of our opinion, what if there are people who get confused? But, I rethink again, that shown such ‘naked’ appearance is good enough. Why I said like this, our life and way to think, because I think there is no opportunity to show (that ‘naked’ side) except we did interview like this.

I think director has been edited your story out. Is there any surprising part or another unexpected one when you watched the completed clip by your selves?
[MH] I thought another unexpected one is a movie which pulls out a plenty of unknown and did not show things of CNBLUE before, and we thank fully to the director. It reflected after live performance, we discussed about part there was regret, and also when we become nervous when rehearsal. We felt worry, but I think is good we could show that circumstances.

The most very impressive part among the movies is when you discussed thoroughly with all of member after your performance in the Summer Sonic..
[JH] Because it was live performance, it is better when there is a problem in many cases than no problem at all. Therefore, the growing on our live performance is extending our ability to cope when there was something, doesn’t it?

And then, by doing like in Summer Sonic, do you think that it is enough for growing your band in the top?

[JH] Well, our discussion like in Summer Sonic, we do after live performance every where. When we did good live performance we will be happy, but when live performance left regret, the discussion must be longer. But whenever it does, it will take about 1 hour, sometimes only 30 minutes. But it depends on the situation. In the end, somebody will change the nature and the feeling.
[MH] When we got a trouble in our live performance, we poured everything in our mind together, and then we will try our best on the next live performance, hope (to make up) for it. At that time we will tell everything we want to tell, after that us always being back as fellow close friend member, and then get meals, dabble out together.

But your cooperative life also could be watched in the movie too,
[JH] Because we are together for a long time, it has already being familiar. So, I don’t think to be alone.

[MH] I also feel it will be greater if we are together then thinking to be alone.

[JS] If being alone, maybe will be better if stay in our room. Since we got to know in along time, and know that being together is great.  Therefore, being together and living hardly, it is not at all.

[YH]If you want to live alone, I think you can do it. Beside you will get some inconvenience, does spend the time together is better?

The bitter memory of your training in Japan..!?

oicon nvr stop3

And then, YongHwa’s bed that shown in the movie was very big, did you choose them by yourself?

[JS] The person who used to live there put them. Because it was rental, actually we use the provided one.
[YH] But, I like everything that big. (Laughing)

The movie is containing of your enjoyable day-to-day scene, but do all of you usually cook?

[JH] Occasionally.
[JS] If I find ingredients, I will make a soup and eat it.

[MH] I do it rarely.

[JH] Me, do not do it at all. (Laughing)

[YH] In this member there is nobody who preferences in cooking, isn’t it?

[JS] Cooking for life.

What foods do make you happy?

[YH] Absolutely whatever my mom’s cook.
[YH, MH, JS] Tenjanchige (Doenjang Jjigae = Korean Soybean Paste)!!!
[JH] At home, my mom is good in cooking. Therefore, she often cooks Ika Jjigae, Shikka for me.

[YH] But, whatever mom cooks is delicious. Even Ramen instant is delicious too.

What memory do you have when you did your training life in Japan?

[JH] I thought I’ll be dying. (Laughing). We did not have money and could not eat anything……
[JS] I looked forward to go and buy Gyuudon.
[MH]  Lying on the bunk bed was fun. Since there I wanted to sleep in the upper bunk.
[YH] Me too!!

[JH] But for me, sleep on upper bunk bed is hard enough. When I got up, I will hit my head (with the ceiling).

[JS] I knocked my head that much.
[MH] I got in the bottom. JungShin-kun in the upper one.
[YH] I got in the bottom too.

Another one, do you have a memorial place in Japan?

[JH] In the downstairs of our training dorm, there was a Café, it is delicious. But, because its price is high, I could not go (to buy meal).
[JS] Because in front of the training dorm is always under the construction, I wonder think when it will finish, when after debut I go there again and it was still in under construction.  Therefore, I want to see the finished place (Laughing).

This movie’s sub title is “NEVER STOP”, but you will not stop from now, and then what are your great efforts you want to do?

[JS] We do not think that we have left such a footprint, but CNBLUE was started in Korea, that case was great too. So, we think that much sense of responsibility also was born, and our opportunities become role model has come some more. If we looked back, we tried our best and started from now on we have to try our best too.

[JH] I believe CNBLUE will go on till forever. Because of that we try our best.

[YH] I think CNBLUE has left for footprint. And then from now I want us to continue for leaving our footprint (in the future).

[MH] I believe we all try our best for leaving our big footprint. We will launch our album in Korea in 2014; we’ll wrap up the tour too. But, I want to do the tour in the country where we never done before and I want more people in Japan who listen our songs.
